What makes a good therapist website??
Your website content!
Of course I 100 percent advocate that you also have a visually pleasing design and utilize keyword planning to have a great therapist website. But if you don’t have great website content, people visiting your page are not going to turn into clients! š¬
Don’t worry, I’m going to walk you through all the aspects of what makes a good therapist website in this article.
Your website content is SO important both to attracting the right clients and helping clients feel confident about scheduling an initial session with you.
Specifically, your website copy is the key content we’ll be focusing on to help you create a great therapist website. Your website copy refers to all the written content, or text, included on your private practice website.
Goals of Great Website Content
There are three main goals you want to convey through your website content:
- Help clients get to know you
- Help clients understand how you can help them
- Help clients establish a connection with you
Often I see therapist websites that are either completely barren of content, or thereās tons of information about a therapistās credentials. Focusing on what training you’ve completed doesnāt help potential clients understand much about who you are and how you can help them.
Why Website Content is KEY to a Good Therapist Website
Let me make something crystal clear for you: you could be the BEST fit for a potential client visiting your website. But if you donāt have great website content, that potential client will not initiate contact with you. So your content is a key marketing asset for your practice.
And guess what? There is no limit to how much text you can add to your website. It’s completely free and it’s one of your biggest assets!
When something is both free and invaluable, that’s music to my ears.
Instead of costing you money, writing website content involves quite a bit of time and elbow grease. But your efforts will most definitely pay off in time.
Preliminary Elements of What Makes a Good Therapist Website
Before diving into creating your website content, be sure to complete these tasks first:
- Build your Website. If you donāt yet have a website up and running, you can learn more about getting started with that by checking out my article: What’s the best website builder for therapists?
- Know your Niche. Yep, I bring this up often, but knowing your niche is SO helpful to nearly every aspect of marketing. If youāre not sure where to begin with developing your niche, feel free to check out my article: Private practice marketing strategy: Find your niche.
How to Create Good Therapist Website Content
Once you have these two steps in place, you can get started with writing your website content. There are two types of content to focus on:
1. Information about you
The information about you will primarily show up in your āAboutā page. Potential clients DEFINITELY click on this page before deciding to contact you.
Your “About” page isnāt a space to pour out your entire life story. However, itās a key opportunity to build trust. It offers a great opportunity to share how your passions overlap with the work that you do. Consider how who you are overlaps with the goals of your practice and share about these items.
2. Information about how you can help potential clients
This information shows up more concisely on your homepage, and you can go more in-depth in your services pages. Try to have a separate services page for each specialty you offer. For example, if you work with couples and families, you might have a separate services page for each of these items.
Hereās an example from my private practice website:
Thereās a page for each specialty I offer. For each specialty you offer, write content that focuses on what your potential clients can expect from you. This isnāt the time to write about all your qualifications, training, and certifications except for briefly mentioning them.
Instead, put yourself in your clientsā shoes and do the best you can to describe what the experience will be like for them as you walk with them through the concerns they need your help with.
By doing so, you help ease any anxieties potential clients may be experiencing about what the therapeutic process may be like, and theyāre much more likely to feel comfortable reaching out to you.
What Makes a Good Therapist Website Even Greater?
SEO goes hand-in-hand with website content when it comes to creating a great therapist website.
Most people are completely overwhelmed by SEO. So I made a video to make it easier – I believe you can implement this strategy! If you combine the tips from this article with the tips in this video, your therapist website will be so golden:
As you can see, the tasks in this video overlap with the same great website content you’re creating by following the guidelines within this article.
Private practice website strategy: Pace yourself!
Website content creation is not something to rush through. I encourage you to have some initial conent up to launch your website sooner rather than later, and then take your time updating the content for one page at a time.
Youāll find that if you dedicate the proper time to this process and do it well, potential clients will be ready to schedule an appointment with you without even needing to schedule an initial call with you.
